St. Joan of Arc Parish Children’s Religious Education supports parents in their vocation to raise and teach their children the truth, goodness, and beauty of the Catholic faith. We seek to connect the head and the heart through learning, prayer, and participation in the life of the Church.

We can’t wait to serve you and your family!

Children’s Religious Education: Grades 1-5

Yes. Online registration is available to all registered St. Joan of Arc parishioners. If you missed the registration deadline, please contact Jeannie Moran at re@sjvbett.org for class availability, as classes become very full by early July.

The Religious Education fee is $50 for one child, $90 for two children, and $125 for three or more children for grades 1–5. No family will be turned away due to an inability to pay.

Registration begins in early June and continues through the end of July. Classes begin in late September. We follow the Bettendorf Community School District calendar and do not have classes during their breaks. Early registration is encouraged, as classes fill quickly and families may not always get their first choice of sessions.

Religious Education classes for grades 1–5 are offered at the Vianney Campus on Wednesday evenings, with two times to choose from:

  • 4:15–5:15 PM
  • 6:00–7:00 PM

These sacraments are received in second grade. Preparation takes place in class and at family workshops. Older students who have not yet received these sacraments can prepare at home with their parent using a book provided by the parish. Contact Jeannie Moran for more information.

Note: Payment is made through
the “Faith Formation” option.

CALENDARS

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word, also called CLOW, is offered to children ages preschool through first grade. At our Lourdes campus it is offered year round during the 10:30 AM mass. At our Vianney campus, it is offered on the first and third Sundays of each month, from October to May, during the 8:30 AM Mass.

No registration is required. Children begin Mass seated with their family until the opening prayer is completed. The priest will call the children forward for a blessing and then send them forth with the CLOW catechists, where they will hear the readings and Gospel at their level of understanding. Children return to Mass during the offertory.

Parents are welcome to accompany their children for CLOW. If you would like to volunteer for this program, please email Jeannie Moran at re@sjvbett.org.

Sprouts Nursery

Sprouts Nursery is for children from infant through age 3 and is open on the first and third Sundays of each month, from October to May, during the 8:30 AM Mass at our Vianney campus.

Registration is not required. Sprouts is open to the first 15 children to arrive each Sunday. Children enjoy supervised playtime in a safe, stimulating environment while parents attend Mass.

Adult leaders who have passed a background check and completed diocesan-required safe environment training, along with teens in the Confirmation program, care for the children on a rotating basis.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Faith, Fun, and Friendship

Vacation Bible School is one of the highlights of the summer at St. Joan of Arc Parish. Through music, games, crafts, prayer, Bible stories, and hands-on activities, children grow in their faith while building friendships and having fun. The program is designed to help children encounter God’s love in a joyful, engaging, and memorable way.

Each day is filled with age-appropriate activities that bring Scripture to life and help children discover how God is present in their everyday lives. Whether through songs, team challenges, creative projects, or prayer experiences, VBS helps children grow in confidence, belonging, and faith.

VBS is open to parishioners ages 3 (potty trained) to current 5th graders.

Vacation Bible School depends on the generosity of many volunteers. Teens and adults are invited to assist with activities, small groups, games, crafts, music, hospitality, and other areas throughout the week.

Volunteer opportunities are available for both youth and adults. Safe environment requirements apply to all volunteers in accordance with diocesan policies.

VBS is a wrap for 2026! Registration for Vacation Bible School typically opens in the spring. Space may be limited, so early registration is encouraged.
